The Battered Women's Shelter!

Community Volunteer's are local organizations, clubs, businesses, and students that are inquiring about providing service for a one day project less than 5 hours. Community Volunteers are required to be accompanied by a staff person to the site of the project and supervised while performing the project. Due to the need of supervision, please allow for a minimum of 2 weeks notice before the project's excepted date.

Some of our projects have a cost associated to allow for purchasing of resources needed to perform the project. The Volunteer Coordinator will try to accommodate your group's financial situation in regards to choosing the project. BWS recommends that the Community Volunteer choose from one of the below tiers of projects to allow for staff to understand and assign a project that fits your groups needs the best.

Level 1 Project:

Examples:

• Organizing and cleaning the Shelter's Food Pantries
• Cleaning up the playgrounds
• Beautifying the yard and landscaping at the Shelters
• Assisting with organizing donations
• Activities with the children or clients

Tools/ Supplies:

• Yard equipment (rakes, shovels, trash bags, gloves, etc...)
• Cleaning supplies (wipes, Windex, Furniture polish, etc...)
• Other various supplies depending on project

Estimated Cost: $0-$50

Level 2 Project:

Examples:        

• Beautifying the yard and landscaping at the Shelter
• Organizing an event/ workshop for the children or clients
• Painting/or Making repairs to the Shelters 
• Hosting a donation drive, fundraiser, or event to support the agency

Tools/ Supplies:

• Mulch, Lawn care items, Flowers, Dirt
• Paint, Paint supplies, tools, and other home improvement supplies 
• Other various supplies depending on project

Estimated Cost: $50-$100

**Be aware that projects may vary due to need, time, and season causing not all projects to be available. Requests may be denied depending on these constraints. **
